IOE B.E./B.Arch. Entrance Exam Syllabus 2083

The IOE entrance exam tests candidates on four subjects: English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, drawn primarily from the +2/A-Level level curriculum. The official notice directs applicants to the syllabus published on the IOE Entrance website, so candidates should always cross-check the exact topic list there. In general terms, based on the standard +2 curriculum these subjects draw from, preparation typically covers:

IOE B.E./B.Arch. Entrance Exam Pattern

According to the official IOE entrance examination notice, the B.E./B.Arch. entrance exam is conducted as a computer-based test (CBT) using an item bank system. The examination has a duration of 2 hours and consists of 100 objective multiple-choice questions, with each question carrying 1 mark.

The questions are distributed across four subjects: English (10 questions), Mathematics (40 questions), Physics (30 questions), and Chemistry (20 questions). The exam also includes negative marking, with 10% of the marks allocated to a question deducted for each incorrect answer.

After the results are published, candidates can access their scorecards online. The scorecard must be downloaded within one month from the date of result publication.

How to Prepare for the IOE Entrance Exam

A few practical, general pointers for structuring your preparation:

  • Know the exact syllabus first. Download the official syllabus PDF from the IOE Entrance website rather than relying on assumptions.
  • Build strong fundamentals in grade 11–12 Physics, Chemistry, and Math, since these carry the bulk of the exam.
  • Practice with a timer. With 100 questions in 2 hours and negative marking, speed and accuracy both matter — guessing carelessly can cost more than it gains.
  • Take regular mock tests to get used to the computer-based, time-pressured format.
  • Revise English grammar and comprehension basics, since this subject is often under-prepared for relative to the science subjects.
  • Track weak areas and revisit them repeatedly rather than only reviewing material you already know well.
