Common Entrance Examination (CEE) 2083: Notice, Syllabus & Model Questions

Common Entrance Examination (CEE)

Common Entrance Examination (CEE) 2083

Nepal’s Medical Education Commission (MEC) has released the official notice for the Medical Education Common Entrance Examination (MECEE-BL) 2027, more commonly known as the CEE. This exam serves as the entry point for bachelor-level health science programs across the country.

Passing the CEE opens the door to a wide range of undergraduate health programs, including MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, BSc Midwifery, BAMS, BPH, BSc MLT, BSc MIT, BSc Radiotherapy Technology, BPT, BPharm, B.Optometry, BASLP, B.Perfusion Technology, and BNS/BMS — provided applicants meet MEC’s eligibility standards for each program.

About the CEE Official Notice 2083

MEC operates as an autonomous body under the National Medical Education Act, 2075, and it is responsible for publishing each cycle’s official CEE notice. Dated 2083/04/21, the current notice invites online applications from eligible candidates for the MECEE-BL 2027 entrance exam and lays out who can apply, which programs are covered, how to submit an application, what documents are needed, and what fees apply.

Per MEC’s Integrated Annual Academic Calendar for 2083/84, the CEE for the 2083 admission cycle is planned for the third week of Ashoj 2083, with classes for newly admitted students expected to begin in the second week of Magh 2083. The exam schedule (program, date, and time) will be published separately closer to the exam.

Different health science programs — MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, BASLP, B.Perfusion Technology, BAMS, BNS, BSc MLT, BSc MIT, BPharm, B.Optometry, BPT, and BPH — each have their own exam dates within this window. Candidates should check MEC’s official notice for the finalized, program-specific schedule.

Who Can Apply

The notice groups eligibility by program cluster. In all cases, at least one of the listed routes must be satisfied:

MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing/Midwifery, BASLP, B.Perfusion Technology

  • A recognized Grade 12 (or Proficiency Certificate Level) in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with a minimum of 50% aggregate or 2.4 CGPA/GPA, or
  • An A-Level or equivalent grading-system qualification in the same three subjects, with the same minimum and MEC-certified equivalence, or
  • A relevant health-science proficiency certificate/diploma (General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Radiography, Ayurveda, or Physiotherapy) passed with at least 50%, registered with the relevant professional council.

BAMS, BSc MLT, BSc MIT/BSc Radiotherapy Technology, BPT, BPharm, B.Optometry

  • The same Grade 12 / A-Level routes as above, or
  • A program-matched diploma — PCL in Ayurveda for BAMS, Diploma in Health Lab for BSc MLT, Diploma in Radiography/Radiotherapy for BSc MIT/Radiotherapy, Diploma in Physiotherapy for BPT, Diploma in Pharmacy for BPharm, Diploma in Ophthalmic Science for B.Optometry — registered with the relevant council, or
  • A general health-science proficiency certificate/diploma passed with at least 50%, combined with Grade 12–equivalent marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

BPH follows the same three routes as the MBBS/BDS cluster above.

BNS/BMS requires a nursing proficiency certificate or diploma passed with a minimum of 50% or 2.4 CGPA/GPA, along with registration with the Nepal Nursing Council.

Additional notes that apply across programs:

  • Foreign applicants, Indian nationals included, may apply under one of two foreign sub-categories — either competing for seats reserved for foreign students through MEC’s own exam, or applying via a national-level entrance exam recognized by their home country (with at least the 50th percentile or 50% marks in that exam).
  • Nepali citizens who’ve finished Grade 12 but haven’t yet turned 16 and lack a citizenship certificate may apply using a minor’s identification card from the District Administration Office.
  • CEE has no attempt limit — candidates can retake it every year until they qualify and secure admission.

Fees and Payment

For CEE 2083 (MECEE-BL 2027), the confirmed application fee is NPR 4,000 for Nepali candidates and NPR 8,000 (or the equivalent) for foreign candidates, plus any extra service charge the payment method itself adds. Applying during the late window (Bhadra 15–22, 2083) doubles this amount. Once paid, the fee is non-refundable under any circumstance, so it’s worth confirming your eligibility before paying.

Payment goes to the account holder “Medical Education Commission, Sanothimi,” through Himalayan Bank Limited branches, or via ConnectIPS, eSewa, Khalti, or card payment — but only through the official application portal, never as a direct transfer to the Commission’s account. A few payment rules worth noting:

  • If paying by counter deposit at a Himalayan Bank branch, each program you’re applying for needs its own separate voucher.
  • If you pay without visiting a bank, enter the last 6 digits of the transaction number in the designated field on the form.
  • A single bank voucher cannot cover more than one program’s fee.
  • If a payment issue comes up during the application, contact the Examination Directorate directly rather than attempting a second payment.

Standard required documents (all as clear digital scans, not photocopies) include a recent passport-size photo, citizenship certificate or National ID (or minor’s ID card), and Grade 12 or equivalent transcripts — plus council registration proof, license documents, or reserved-category certificates where applicable.

How to Apply

CEE applications are handled entirely online through MEC’s entrance portal at entrance.mec.gov.np; paper applications aren’t accepted.

Here’s the general application process:

  1. Go to entrance.mec.gov.np, click “Register here,” and create a profile using your email address and a password. Candidates who applied in a previous CEE cycle can simply log back into their existing profile rather than registering again.
  2. Verify your email address through the confirmation link sent to your inbox before continuing.
  3. Log back in, pay the application fee first — the system only unlocks the rest of the form once payment is confirmed — through a Himalayan Bank branch, ConnectIPS, eSewa, Khalti, or card payment via the portal (funds should never be transferred directly to the Commission’s account).
  4. Select your desired program(s) from the checkboxes shown, fill in personal details, +2 (or equivalent) academic records, council registration details (if applicable), and your reservation category, saving progress at each step.
  5. Upload the required documents as a single scanned PDF or JPEG per document — a recent passport-size photo, citizenship certificate/National ID (or minor’s ID for applicants under 16), and Grade 12 or equivalent transcripts.
  6. Submit the application separately for each program you’re applying to, then download the confirmation page — the form cannot be edited once submitted.
  7. Roughly five days before the exam, log into your profile and download the admit card via the “Download Admit Card” option; print it in color as instructed.

Exam Format

Knowing the exam structure is as important as knowing the content. The CEE (MECEE-BL) paper typically follows this format:

FeatureDetail
ModeOffline, paper-based (OMR)
Duration3 hours, one sitting (usually 11:00 AM–2:00 PM)
Total Questions200
Question FormatMultiple-choice, single best answer
Total Marks200
Marking+1 per correct answer, −0.25 per wrong answer, 0 for skipped questions
SubjectsPhysics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, MAT (weighting may shift slightly by program)
Passing BarRoughly the 50th percentile to land on the merit list

Because wrong answers cost marks, guessing blindly can actually hurt a candidate’s score — so accuracy and pacing matter just as much as subject knowledge.

Scholarship Seat Reservations

Under the National Medical Education Regulation, 2077, MEC distributes government scholarship seats at the bachelor level with 55% allotted through open merit and the remaining 45% reserved across these categories:

CategoryReserved Share
Women33%
Madhesi18%
Khas Arya17%
Adibasi/Janajati15%
Dalit9%
Backward-area candidates4%
Tharu4%
Disabled candidates2%
Muslim2%
Martyr/disappeared/injured-conflict-victim families2%

Within the women’s quota, 3% is set aside for Dalit women and 2% for Muslim women; within the Madhesi quota, 3% is set aside for Madhesi Dalit candidates. If a reserved category has no eligible applicants, MEC redistributes those seats to related categories or to the open group.

Exam-Day Rules

A few conduct requirements apply on exam day, per the notice:

  • Bring your admit card and original ID (citizenship certificate and National ID card for Nepali candidates; passport or e-ID card for foreign candidates) — photocopies aren’t accepted.
  • Arrive at least 2 hours before the exam starts, since security screening and biometric verification take place beforehand.
  • No entry is allowed 15 minutes after the exam begins, and no one may leave the hall before the full 3 hours are up.
  • Calculators, mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, tablets, bags, wallets, and jewelry aren’t permitted inside the exam hall; only power-lens glasses (no other eyewear or hair accessories) are allowed.
  • A black ballpoint pen is provided at the venue and must be used to fill the OMR sheet; any overwritten, erased, or torn answers score zero.
  • Impersonation or attempting to sit the exam under a false identity leads to disqualification and legal action.

Preparing for the Exam

Doing well on CEE takes more than syllabus familiarity — it requires steady, structured practice under conditions that mimic the actual exam. A solid preparation approach usually includes:

  • Covering the entire syllabus across Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, and MAT, instead of focusing only on preferred topics.
  • Building conceptual understanding so that unfamiliar or applied questions can be worked through logically, not just recalled.
  • Practicing regularly with chapter tests, subject quizzes, and complete model exams.
  • Taking timed mock tests that replicate the real 3-hour, 200-question format and its negative marking.
  • Reviewing performance after each test to target and fix weak spots before moving on.
  • Setting a realistic revision schedule for the final stretch, avoiding last-minute cramming.

CEE Entrance Exam Model Questions

Practicing with model questions that mirror the real CEE pattern — single-best-answer MCQs, negative marking, and the typical difficulty curve across Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, and MAT — is one of the most effective ways to build both speed and accuracy. Model questions help candidates get comfortable with how MEC frames questions, spot recurring topic patterns, and build the stamina needed for a 3-hour paper.

Try It First: Guest Mock Tests

Not ready to enroll in a full course? Pratima Academy lets students try a realistic exam environment without registering, through guest mock tests. These are somewhat limited — they skip questions with diagrams or mathematical notation — but they’re a fast, no-signup way to check where you currently stand. Sample Zoology and Botany tests are available for guest practice directly on the site.
