CMAT Entrance Exam
The Faculty of Management (FoM), Office of the Dean, Tribhuvan University has officially opened the Central Management Admission Test (CMAT) 2083 for students seeking admission into TU’s undergraduate management programs. If you’re planning to study BBA, BBM, BHM, BITM, BTTM, BBA-Finance, BPA, or BMS this year, here’s everything you need to know about the notice, eligibility, syllabus, and how to prepare, along with a set of model questions to get you started.
Why Does CMAT Entrance Preparation Matter?
CMAT is an aptitude-based entrance examination conducted annually by the Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan University. A passing CMAT score is mandatory for admission into any TU-affiliated college offering the following programs:
- Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
- Bachelor of Business Management (BBM)
- Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM)
- Bachelor of Information Technology Management (BITM)
- Bachelor in Travel and Tourism Management (BTTM)
- Bachelor of Business Administration – Finance (BBA-F)
- Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA)
- Bachelor of Mountaineering Studies (BMS)
The test follows an SAT-style, objective (multiple-choice) format and is used to rank and shortlist candidates on merit for admission to TU’s management faculty colleges nationwide.
Who Should Take This Exam?
This exam is for anyone who has completed (or is about to complete) their 10+2, PCL, or equivalent and wants to pursue a management degree at a TU-affiliated college. It’s a good fit whether you’re aiming for a business-focused program like BBA or BBA-Finance, a specialized track like BHM or BTTM, or a niche option like BMS. Since CMAT tests general aptitude rather than subject-specific knowledge, it’s equally accessible to students from Management, Science, or Humanities backgrounds in +2.

CMAT Entrance Exam Syllabus
CMAT tests general aptitude rather than program-specific subject knowledge, so no separate preparation of Class 11–12 syllabus is required. The paper is divided into four broad sections:
1. Verbal Ability (English)
- Reading comprehension
- Vocabulary — synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution
- Grammar — tenses, articles, prepositions, subject-verb agreement
- Sentence correction, completion, and rearrangement
- Idioms and phrasal usage
2. Quantitative Ability (Mathematics)
- Number systems, percentages, ratio and proportion
- Profit, loss, and simple/compound interest
- Averages, mixtures, and alligation
- Time, speed, and distance; time and work
- Basic algebra and geometry
- Data interpretation (tables, bar/pie charts)
3. Logical Reasoning
- Series completion (number and letter)
- Analogies and classification
- Coding-decoding
- Blood relations
- Direction sense
- Statement and conclusion/assumption-based questions
- Seating arrangement and puzzles
4. General Awareness
- Current affairs (national and international)
- Business and economics news
- General knowledge of Nepal — geography, history, and governance
- Basic awareness of management, trade, and organizations
How to Prepare: Quick Tips
- Start with previous years’ CMAT question papers to understand the difficulty level and recurring topics.
- Time yourself — CMAT is as much about speed as accuracy.
- Identify your weakest section early and dedicate extra time to it rather than spreading effort evenly.
- Keep a daily habit of reading news for the General Awareness section, since this portion is the hardest to cram at the last minute.
- Take at least a few full-length mock tests under exam-like conditions before the actual test date.
CMAT Entrance Exam Pattern
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Question type | Multiple-choice (objective) |
| Total questions | 100 |
| Total marks | 100 |
| Duration | 90 minutes |
| Negative marking | No |
| Sections | Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning, General Awareness |
Since there’s no negative marking, it’s generally better to attempt every question rather than leaving any blank.
